neighborhood

 Postal Code: V3R 6P2

Census Tract: 9330187.18

Total Population: 568,322

Neighborhood Description: This is a area of surrey from Fraser highway 144 to 88avenue 152 street where I live.

THREE MOST INTERSTING FINDINGS:

1. Average age of the population: In both the areas, the population of 15 to 64 years age group lives higher than any other age group and its counts is almost same, because it differs by points only. In Surrey the counts of this population is 68.1 and in the Vancouver it is 68.5.

This surprise me that both the areas have same counts of young age population, because i thought they prefer Vancouver to live where they can get more facilities to live like jobs on walking distance.

2. Indigenous population-25% sample data: In surrey, the counts of population with Treaty Indian status in private  households is 562,565. On the other hand, in Vancouver it is higher with 2,607,010. This is total of indigenous identity and also the counts of ethnic or cultural origin in private households. India is at peak in this counts as compared to others.

This also surprise me, because in the residential area its counts is less as compared to the most crowdy area. By seeing this, we can get idea how many population from other countries or backgrounds lives there.

3. visible minority: In surrey and Vancouver, the total counts of visible minority population is 377,235 and 1,420,270.
The interesting thing in this point is this population belongs to developed countries, but here they counts as a visible minority. I have curiosity to know about the reason why it counts as a minority in this time or era.

  1. Hi Harmanpreet! I found your blog to be very interesting. I was very surprised by the population stats though, and when I input your census code I realized you may have some of the numbers for population wrong. Some of your stats were in the hundreds of thousands to million range, and there are not nearly that many people in Vancouver or Surrey. Just a note, maybe recheck your population notes again!

  2. Hi Harmanpreet, I really like your blog post. It also does surprise me that your neighbourhood and Vancouver have a similar percentage of people aged 15 to 64, I wonder what could be influencing that statistic. One way you could improve is by comparing more of the percentages instead of just comparing the numbers. I enjoyed reading your post!
